Getting the Water Back Off Your Slab
A supply line rupture is clean water from a sanitary source, and that is the one piece of good news in the whole event. It means we go straight at the extraction instead of building containment first. That saves an hour at the front of the job and it changes what you keep.
Carpet gets worked slowly with weight leaned into the head until a pass stops producing anything. The pad under it is normally finished after this kind of soaking and leaves in rolls. Hard flooring gets squeegeed toward the head and pulled dry in sections.
The awkward part on a slab job is always the covering itself. Where your floor is floating or glued down there is a film of water sitting between it and the concrete that nothing reaches through the surface, so sections of the covering come up to open that layer.

Why Concrete Decides How Long This Takes
On a slab job the material is the argument, not the equipment. Concrete is not a surface with water lying on top of it. It is a porous solid that has taken water into its own body, and it gives that water back at a rate the pour decides rather than a rate your schedule decides.
Nothing we set up reaches inside it. What the setup can do is keep the air directly above the slab hungry enough that the concrete carries on releasing, which is the only mechanism there is and the reason this gets measured in days.
That is what decides where everything points. Air movers go low and along the baseboard line, angled to sweep the concrete and push into any wall cavity we had to open, rather than parked in the middle of the room where the wet surface is not. The dehumidifiers work the whole enclosed volume, and they are the only machines here taking water out of your building rather than moving it around inside it.
Concrete is also the slow one. Water absorbed into low evaporation material like concrete, or into a layered assembly such as a multilayer subfloor, comes back out grudgingly and needs longer drying times and a bigger vapor pressure difference to move it. That is why a slab job stretches past what the same square footage of wet carpet would have needed, and why anybody promising you a fixed number of days is guessing.
What Has to Be Dry Before Anyone Closes the Wall
There is a specific number attached to the end of a job like this, and it is not about the concrete. Trade guidance for preventing dry rot and ongoing structural damage is that wood materials should not be reconstructed or covered until moisture content falls below 16 percent, and that a restoration professional should confirm proper drying before reconstruction begins. Framing near the break, the bottom plate especially, is the material that reading applies to.
That is your handover point. Sealing a wall back up over framing that has not got there is how a second problem starts behind the first, out of sight, with new board in front of it.
